Lemons not only make for good additives to your food, but they also make an excellent natural cleaner for your house! Check out some of the ways to use lemons around the house to make it nice and clean:

Lemon juice can be used to dissolve soap scum and difficult to remove hard water deposits.

Lemon juice can be mixed with vinegar and/or baking soda to make cleaning pastes to be used on tile, grout, etc..

Lemon juice can clean and shine some metals like brass.

Mixing 1/2 cup of lemon juice with 1 cup olive oil makes a great furniture polish for your hardwood furniture. (Check in a small spot before using on entire piece)

Cut a lemon into quarters to clean the garbage disposal. Put each quarter in, one at a time, with the water running the disposal on. This helps to both clean out old stuck food AND make it smell better!

We have not had carpet in our house for a few years now, so we need to constantly clean both our hardwood and tile floors with some sort of non-toxic cleaners. Sure, a broom will do most of the cleaning, but you do need to get them clean with a real cleaning product sometimes! For those days, there are a few ways you can make an all-natural, non-toxic cleaner that will do the job:

For Cleaning Wood Floors (not laminates)
Combine 1/2 gallon white vinegar and 1/2 gallon olive oil in a large bucket and mop the floors. They will be nice and shiny and clean after this, without any toxins!

For Cleaning Tile Floors
Combine 1 gallon of water (warm) and 1.5 cups of white vinegar for a spotless and all-natural deep cleaning.

There really is no need to buy toxic sprays and bottles to clean your floors. In the old days, these are the recipes that homeowners used and their floors were just as clean as the ones today cleaned with toxic chemicals. Using safe ingredients like these leads to a natural clean house!

Did you know that you could use regular old coffee beans to remove unpleasant odors in your house? Yep, you sure can! All you need are some fresh coffee beans and a few small bowls and you are all set to have a natural odor-fighter that also makes your house smell like the inside of a coffee shop. It’s really not a bad way to smell!

Just put the coffee beans in the small bowls and place them throughout the house - in no time, your odors will be gone and everything will smell of freshly brewed coffee. Just be sure to replace the bowls every couple weeks though!

It has happened to everyone - you leave the candle burning for too long, the side falls down, and out pours the wax all over your carpet! But instead of going to get some toxic cleaning stuff or hiring professionals, try this completely non-toxic way to remove the candle wax!

Lay newspaper down on top of the wax and set an iron to low. Wait a few minutes, and once it has warmed up start running it over the newspaper right on top of the wax. Slowly the wax will start melting and get absorbed into the newspaper, lifting up off the carpet. You will see that the majority of the wax and color will come up, but there might be a little residue and color left over - but it was way better than the big hard chunks of wax that were on the floor before. Happy wax removing!

Don’t want to spray Lysol or other dangerous chemicals all over the house? Don’t want to use bleach to clean up after your kid? You can make a very basic but very effective natural disinfectant spray from just a few common household products. First, you need a spray bottle that you can get from almost anywhere if you don’t happen to have an extra one in the house. Then, you will need the following:

1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide

1 cup of white vinegar

2 cups of water

Just combine the ingredients in the spray bottle and voila - natural, safe disinfectant you can use almost anywhere. I would not advise you to use it on fabric, as the hydrogen peroxide can have a lightening effect. But most solid surfaces should be fine, and you can rest easy that you are not cleaning with any toxic chemicals!

While there are plenty of products out there that you can buy at the store that claim to be natural, the only guarantee you have is their word. So how about instead you make your own natural, all-purpose household cleaner that you can trust? All it takes is a few common household ingredients and a spray bottle, so not only is it 100% natural but it is frugal as well!

Gather up the ingredients - vinegar, baking soda, water and your spray bottle. That’s all you need! Combine 1/2 cup vinegar with 1/4 cup of baking soda in 1/2 gallon of water in your spray bottle, and you have your all-purpose, all-natural, nearly free household cleaner!

Very simple - buy a lemon next time you are at the store! Cut the lemon into a couple of wedges, and get ready for some sweet citrus smell in your kitchen. Turn on the water, turn on the disposal, and slowly start adding a single lemon wedge at a time to the disposal, giving each one time to be chewed up and flushed out.

After a few wedges of the lemon, you will notice that your disposal no longer smells! The lemon helps to both clear out old food that might be stuck inside, and also to fight some of the bacteria that could be causing the smell. Enjoy your lemon-scented disposal!

You know the drill; you spray that caustic stuff all over the inside of your oven and turn it on broil for hours on end, which fills up your home with that terrible smell!. Well luckily there are natural and safe options you can use instead which will leave both you and your oven saying thank you!

First just get the inside walls and bottom of the inside of your oven wet using an old rag and some water. Following that, combine 1/4 cup water, 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup salt in a bowl, making a paste. Spread this past on every surface inside the oven and let sit for a few hours. After it has sat a while, come back to scrape it off with something that will not scratch the inside of the oven, like a plastic lid cover or spatula, and then follow with a quick wipe-down with a clean rag or towel. Presto, most of the gunk that builds up inside the oven will be gone, and you did not have to fill the house with that terrible chemical smell!
